Elvan Tuğsuz Güven, President of the Hydroelectric Power Plants Industry Association (HESİAD), stated that in the first six months of 2024, hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) generated 83,762 gigawatt-hours of electricity, surpassing other renewable energy sources.
According to data from the Turkey Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ), HPPs accounted for 28.03% of the total electricity production, exceeding the total contribution of other renewable sources.
Güven emphasized that HPPs provide high-capacity and stable production, playing a critical role in Turkey's energy supply security.
Additionally, he highlighted the advantages of HPPs, such as their low carbon footprint, water storage capacity, and ability to be quickly activated.
HPPs also offer additional benefits, such as irrigation, flood control, and recreation.
Güven stated that investments must continue for HPPs, the most reliable source of renewable energy in Turkey, to keep contributing to sustainable development.
